Clouds

I’ve lived under clouds

For so long now

I may have forgotten how

Sunshine feels

Clouds of fear

Or anger

Sometimes resentment

Always self-doubt

I have felt foggy

And dreary

Or dark and stormy

Always oppressed

But the thing about clouds

Is, the sun’s always there

Right above the top layer

Always

I imagine cloudy days now

Like a pilot

Taking off on a rainy day

Waiting for the reveal

If I reject fear

And embrace gratitude

If I forgive others, and

Give myself grace

My heart and mind

Will have the power

To punch through

the oppression

I want to soar above fear

Leaving hate behind me

I want my heart open to

The vast and the possible

To the beauty of hope

And joy and love

I am ready to find the sun

Above the clouds
